Artist Statement
The stark contrast between Hong Kong air quality and the Solomon Islands is invisible but highly indicative of the larger global issue of urban vs rural land use. Although they seem worlds apart, Hong Kong’s air eventually becomes part of the entire global ecosystem, even reaching these remote, seemingly untouched corners of the planet. This artwork takes the air data from both sites and forces one onto the other visually. The color represents pollution level and we are reminded of our responsibility in larger cities to find solutions before our actions spread to these fragile ecosystems.
